DataPortal enables you to transfer databases from various vendors, platforms and operating systems encrypted over the Web. DataPortal can be automatically downloaded and installed into Java-enabled Web browsers and is billed by the vendor as an alternative to EDI and XML platforms.
DataPortal delivers business data directly into a user's preferred database system; with the vendor noting that often no development effort is required for data transfer. The user (who receives data) does not need to purchase or install any software since it is automatically installed into the Web browser.
DataPortal is Web based: All clients need is network access to a DataPortal server, a Web browser and a destination database system. Then database data published to the DataPortal server is delivered, over the Web, directly to a client's database system of choice and ready for immediate processing utilizing the full infrastructure built up around the user's preferred database. There is no need for conversion to other formats (e.g. XML) and the vendor notes that it works across different database vendors, platforms and OSes. It works over the Web so firewalls do not need to be modified and it uses passwords and SSL for access control and data protection.
